Balpara first opened its doors in 1976 as Bayside Drafting, a small steel detailing drafting office. Since then, the drafting office has evolved into an engineering consultancy, providing quality technical services to a number of well known Australian clients.

Balpara provides the following core services – either in house or on site:

Balpara forms part of the Bayside Group, which is an Australian organisation that also provides I.T. and Recruitment services.  The Bayside structure enables clients to benefit from expertise in niche markets, while receiving a streamlined service.

Our History

Balpara first opened its doors in 1976 as Bayside Drafting, a small steel detailing drafting office founded by three young draftsman, two of which remain actively involved in the business as Owner/Directors.

The drafting office experienced consistent growth and went from providing traditional steel detailing to offering structural steel 3D modeling. Over the years, the business established an electrical drafting division, eventually adding electrical engineering to its service mix.  Today Balpara operates as an engineering consultancy.

In 2007, Bayside Drafting Australia Pty Ltd added Bayside Electrical Design as an additional trading name to better promote its electrical division. Bayside Electrical Design evolved rapidly, adding services to meet client requirements and optimise service delivery.

In that same year Bayside Electrical Design began providing consulting services, placing quality technical staff in client offices to assist clients to complete their projects.   By using our professionals on a consulting basis, clients have the flexibility to utilise resources only when the need arises, minimising costs. The consulting division now regularly outsources internal staff to client premises to assist clients in managing fluctuating market demands.

By 2010, Bayside Drafting had outgrown its name as it provided more than just drafting services.  A new name was sought for Bayside Drafting Australia Pty Ltd to be better aligned with the services it provides.  Having been a proudly Australian owned and operated service provider since 1976, the aboriginal Australian word Balpara was chosen as our new name, meaning helper/friend.

Memberships

Balpara’s structural division is a member of the Australian Steel Institute (ASI) and as such Balpara staff perform all detailing services according to the AISD Professional Declaration of the Australian Institute of Steel Detailers. 

Balpara’s electrical division is a member of Engineers Australia and the Electrical Engineering Society of Australia (EESA) and is therefore bound by the Engineers Australia Code of Ethics.

It is a Board requirement that all employees adhere to corporate policies and procedures as well as their applicable code for Professional Conduct, and apply their code when conducting any engineering consultancy activities.  Nonconformity to the code is addressed through the relevant complaints process and acted upon accordingly.
