Melbourne Pit Inspection Program
April 23, 2021

Balpara has been engaged by Powercor to perform pit inspections across the CitiPower network as part of its large-scale pit inspection program.

Project Overview

Over the next seven years, this program will see the inspection of 500 pits across Melbourne’s metropolitan area for the purpose of identifying any repairs or maintenance that may be required before further works can take place.

Balpara’s specialist teams of underground lineworkers are performing regular pit inspections for the client, utilising 3D LIDAR technology to create highly accurate scans.

Project Scope

  • Using a 3D LIDAR scanner to scan all areas of the pits to assess structural integrity
  • Identifying issues such as cracks or damaged slabs that require maintenance or upgrades prior to further work being performed
  • Providing comprehensive scans that include highly accurate, repeatable and traceable measurements
  • Preparation of all scans in various file formats as per the client requirements
