Perth CBD Electrical Cable Installation
December 18, 2019

Balpara was engaged by Daly’s Constructions to establish an electrical design for a single 132kV cable to connect the existing Hay and Milligan Street substations in Perth’s CBD. This two kilometre powerline will provide additional transmission capacity and a secure electrical supply to the area.

Project Overview

Upgrades of the Hay and Milligan Street substations were required due to significant residential and commercial growth in Perth’s CBD. Balpara was engaged by Daly’s Constructions to devise an electrical design, including detailing As-Builts, 3D laser scanning and drafting, for the installation of this 2km 132kV transmission cable. All electrical engineering was performed in accordance with Western Power standards.

In addition, Balpara provided the electrical designs for two new joint bays and a structural cable support design, as well as assisted in the substation design by providing 3D laser scanning and drafting of the substation layouts.

Project Scope

  • Devising the electrical design for two new joint bays.
  • Detailing as-built drawings for the new 132kV cable in line with Western Power standards.
  • Providing long section for new conduit level.
  • Providing a new substation design cable layout, including 3D drafting of the substations to ascertain location of the new 132kV circuit.
  • Underground electrical design and construction of existing electrical private supply.
  • Designing structural cable support for the substations.
  • Preparation of electrical as-built drawings to Western Power standards.
  • Maintaining drawing register through project management.
