Balpara was engaged by Seymour Whyte to provide Detailing, Surveying and VEDN Auditing services to Melbourne Water’s dam upgrade.


Project Overview

 

Located 5 kilometres east of Reefton, Melbourne Water’s upgrade of the Upper Yarra Reservoir Dam will ensure the continued integrity and stability of the dam wall, so the reservoir can continue to supply world class drinking water to Melburnians. 

 

In accordance with AusNet power standards, Balpara is providing Detailing, Surveying and VEDN auditing services to aid in the installation of a new High Voltage (HV) line and kiosk for the dam, while also running conduit lines from the top of the dam to the bottom. 

 

Project Scope

 

  • Completing the electrical design for the installation of HV powerline, determining the most effective and efficient route for the underground power cable. 
  • Providing electrical designs and detailing as-builts for the new kiosk at the site. 
  • Surveying of trenches to ensure correct depth and alignment of HV powerlines in accordance with designs. 
  • Using advanced technology including Robotic Total Stations and GPS field systems to ensure accuracy to within ±20mm. 
  • Detailing as-built drawings for the new HV cable in line with AusNet standards. 
  • Providing long section for new conduit level.

  • Balpara is VEDN accredited, and this project was undertaken adhering to all VESI training requirements and best practise surveying techniques. 
  • Balpara has held ISO9001 certification for over six years without non-conformances and attained re-certification to the new AS/NZS 2016 Standard.
